A Legacy in the Air
Radio control flying has come a long way since the 1930s!
Early hobbyists built their own radios using vacuum tubes — some planes weighed over 10 lbs just in electronics. From the “reeds” of the 1950s to today’s reliable 2.4 GHz digital systems, the technology has become safer and more accessible for everyone.
Our club (AMA #179) has been part of this tradition for decades, providing a welcoming place for Colorado Springs area pilots to share their passion and keep the golden age of modeling alive.
PPRC Club in Action From summer fly-ins to our annual events, this video captures the spirit of our community at the field. Whether you're a seasoned pilot or just starting out, there's always a spot on the flight line for you!
Runway and Access Road Improvement Project (2025)
Thanks to dedicated volunteers and member donations, we completed a major upgrade to our flying field. The project included:
Site assessment and planning (May–June 2025)
Crack repair, surface grinding, and asphalt sealing (July–September 2025)
Painting of centerlines, taxiways, and engine kill zones
Regrading and gravel restoration of the access road
The improvements have made the field smoother, safer, and more enjoyable for all members. Thank you to everyone who helped!
