Here at PPRCC, we train new pilots primarily on the Horizon Hobby Apprentice STS. We’ve found it to be a solid, reliable training platform for beginners.
If you’re starting completely new, the Apprentice STS is available as a Ready‑To‑Fly (RTF) package — meaning it includes everything you need right out of the box: the airplane, radio transmitter, battery, and charger.
Many pilots also find helpful reviews and flight demonstrations on YouTube by searching for “Apprentice STS”.
Note: PPRCC is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit RC club. We are not sponsored by Horizon Hobby, and we do not represent or promote any manufacturer. We simply recommend the Apprentice STS because it has proven to be a reliable and effective trainer for new pilots at our field.
